Lance Rucker focusing on recovery, not dwelling on missing Nebraska game

UND captain Lance Rucker, a Nebraska native, is staying focused on recovery rather than dwelling on the missed Nebraska game, according to the wire material. The Fighting Hawks defensive player, one of the best returning players in FCS, suffered a preseason foot injury and is expected out until October. Despite his absence, Rucker remains optimistic and is cautiously testing his injury, sprinting on the sidelines during practice.

Rucker, a preseason All-American, reminded coach Eric Schmidt that he was only jogging, not sprinting, after Schmidt noticed his movement during a recent practice. Rather than lamenting his missed opportunity to face Nebraska, Rucker shifted his focus to helping his teammates. He emphasized that his best contribution is to perform well every day and assist the younger players in big games.

Rucker's journey to UND was not marked by Nebraska fandom. Growing up in Omaha, he didn't have any Nebraska gear or posters. He clarified that he doesn't have a rooting interest in any team. He acknowledged feeling different after the injury but chose to accept it and concentrate on getting better and being a team player.
