Jangan alih keputusan pengampunan kepada PM, kata Tengku Zafrul

Tengku Zafrul Aziz, the right-hand political advisor to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, has strongly criticized those seeking to shift the responsibility of Najib Razak's pardon to the King. In a video shared on social media, Tengku asserted that the Prime Minister is not empowered to decide whether or not to grant forgiveness to Najib, who has already been proven guilty by a court.

The Constitution of Malaysia, in Section 42, grants the King the power to grant pardons through the Special Council, overseen by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Tengku emphasized that it is not necessary to challenge the King's authority, and one should focus on the facts, rather than getting lost in political rhetoric. He reiterated that Najib is only receiving a conditional pardon, meaning he will serve the remaining six years of his one-year prison sentence at home until August 23, 2028, provided he pays a RM50 million fine. Should Najib fail to pay the fine, he must serve an additional year in prison.
