Indonesia has granted Malaysia a green light to send aid in combating forest and land fires that are causing tensions between the two nations. The Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Zahid Hamidi, announced the approval during a meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta. The assistance package includes a Bombardier CL-415MP aircraft, three helicopters, and 52 personnel from the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM), and the Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM).

Zahid, who is also the chairman of the Central Disaster Management Council, said that the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamad Hasan, was requested to coordinate the aid with Nadma, APMM, the Malaysian Meteorological Department, TUDM, Malaysia's Bombardier and Lifesaver Agency (JBPM), and relevant parties. He expressed hope that the Malaysian Foreign Ministry, in its coordination efforts, would ensure all parties involved in the operation follow proper procedures.

According to Zahid, the fires have affected 1,426 hotspots in Kalimantan, and the Indonesian government has taken action against 95 companies involved in open fires on Borneo islands. Zahid declined to comment on whether any Malaysian companies were among the 95 involved, stating that no information was provided at the time, and Indonesia is investigating potential Malaysian involvement.

Malaysia welcomes Indonesia's actions and stands ready to cooperate in addressing the fire and border tension issues, particularly their impact on Sarawak.
