Indonesia beri lampu hijau Malaysia hantar bantuan padam kebakaran

Indonesia has granted Malaysia green light to send aid to combat the ongoing forest and land fires, which have strained relations between the two neighboring countries. Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi revealed this during his visit to Jakarta, stating that the Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Malaysia's offer to tackle the issue jointly.

The assistance Malaysia is offering includes a Bombardier CL-415MP airplane, three helicopters, and 52 personnel from the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM), and Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM). The Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamad Hasan, has been asked to coordinate the aid with Nadma, APMM, the Malaysian Meteorological Department, TUDM, Malaysian Rescue and Lifesaving Agency (JBPM), and relevant parties.

Zahid expects that coordination at the ministerial, department, and agency levels will ensure smooth operations, and he hopes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will ensure all parties involved in the operation conduct their tasks with due diligence. The aid is not only for the immediate crisis of fire suppression but also for planning long-term measures to prevent future border disputes caused by forest and land fires.

According to Zahid, at the time of the meeting, there were still 1,426 hotspots in Kalimantan, and the Indonesian government has taken action against 95 companies involved in open-air fires in the Borneo islands. When asked if there are any Malaysian companies among the 95 companies, Zahid stated that no information has been provided yet, and the Indonesian side is investigating any possible involvement of Malaysian companies.

He added that Malaysia welcomes Indonesia's actions and remains committed to cooperating in addressing the fire and border disputes issues, especially their impact on Sarawak.
