IIM-Jammu denies Congress MP claim that students who skipped Modi birthday event warned of fines

Congress MP Dr Syed Naseer Hussain, the party's in-charge of party affairs in Jammu and Kashmir, alleged that the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu had issued notices to students asking them to explain their absence from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday celebrations held on campus on September 17. He also warned of a Rs 500 fine if they didn't respond.

However, the institute swiftly refuted Hussain's claims, stating that the student council had sent an email that was being misinterpreted as institute instructions.

The institute's spokesperson confirmed that a "deepak lighting ceremony" was organized within the institute on Thursday to mark Prime Minister Modi's birthday. Despite Hussain's claims, the spokesperson denied that any notice threatening penalties was issued. He emphasized that the institute respects the right of students to make independent decisions about attending such events and organizing their own activities.

The institute has planned a plantation and sanitation drive on October 2, but participation in these events is at the students' discretion.
