Gaza health officials say 4 killed in Israeli strikes, including child

Gaza health officials reported on Saturday that Israeli strikes have killed at least four individuals, including a ten-year-old girl and the son of a prominent government official. The child's death occurred due to wounds sustained from Israeli army fire near the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza. Additionally, Baseer al-Barsh, the son of Munir al-Barsh, who heads Gaza's health ministry, perished in an airstrike in a displaced persons camp in Jabalia, northern Gaza. Baseer's father described the killings as "a continuation of crimes" during his son's funeral.

Furthermore, two Palestinians were killed and several others were injured in two separate strikes near Gaza City, according to Gaza's al-Shifa hospital and the territory's civil defense. The Israeli military has yet to provide an official response to these strikes. Since October last year, when Israel agreed to a ceasefire brokered by the United States, the Israeli army has intensified its attacks on Gaza.

Despite these intensified strikes, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue targeting Hamas and to maintain its presence in Gaza until the militant group relinquishes all weapons. The 2023 attack claimed the lives of 1,221 people, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures, while over 251 hostages were taken, with 44 of them subsequently dying.

The Israeli offensive has resulted in widespread destruction across Gaza, with more than 73,800 fatalities, according to the Gaza health ministry, a figure that the United Nations considers reliable. Israeli strikes have claimed over 1,300 lives since the ceasefire was announced last year, with five Israeli soldiers and one civilian contractor also losing their lives.
