Gachagua says Museveni’s fuel remarks vindicate his G-to-G deal concerns

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed satisfaction that Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has questioned Kenya's fuel procurement deal, which he has long criticized. During an appearance in Kansas City on September 19, 2026, Gachagua said Museveni's revelation that a Kenyan senator had informed him Uganda was buying petroleum products through middlemen in Kenya confirmed his concerns.

Museveni had stated on September 17 that the disclosure led him to question the arrangement. Gachagua, who has been vocal about his doubts regarding the G-to-G deal, alleged that President William Ruto orchestrated the scheme to benefit himself by securing a deal with Middle Eastern companies. He claimed Ruto approached three companies in the Middle East, made a deal with them, and then enlisted a proxy company, Gulf Oil, to front the arrangement.

While Museveni did not name Ruto, Gachagua felt vindicated by the Ugandan president's actions. He explained that Ruto convinced Museveni to label the deal as G-to-G, but in reality, it was a hidden conduit allowing Ruto to profit. Gachagua also addressed the question of how he fell for Ruto's deception while working in the Kenyan government.

He compared his predicament to Museveni's experience, highlighting Ruto's cunning in manipulating even a seasoned leader like Museveni.
