UAE joins Pacific Islands Forum as strategic partner to expand ties across region

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been officially designated as a strategic partner of the Pacific Islands Forum, marking a significant step in the country's engagement in the Pacific region. This recognition, announced at a meeting in Koror, Palau on September 18, follows the UAE joining a group of 12 other global powers, including China, the United States, France, Germany, the UK, Canada, Japan, India, Indonesia, and the European Union.

The UAE's status as a strategic partner is anticipated to open new avenues for trade, investment, and business collaborations, as well as knowledge sharing in areas such as energy transition, digital transformation, and connectivity.

This designation underscores the UAE's years of cooperation with Pacific Island developing states, focusing on renewable energy, climate resilience, education, and sustainable development. Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of State and representative of President Sheikh Mohamed, highlighted that the recognition is built on a foundation of mutual respect and a shared commitment to sustainable development.

She emphasized that this partnership is particularly significant for the UAE, reflecting the robust relationships the UAE has developed across the region.

Omar Shehadeh, envoy of the UAE's Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Caribbean and Pacific States, added that becoming a strategic partner opens new collaboration opportunities with Pacific nations, enhancing connectivity and working towards shared goals for a more resilient and prosperous future. Mr. Shehadeh noted that the UAE's engagement with the Pacific has always been guided by the vision and directives of its leadership.
