Embrace discipline, professionalism, army tells young soldiers

The Nigerian Army has urged new recruits to maintain discipline, professionalism, and a dedication to ongoing training as they move to their designated units and units. Major General Valentine Okoro, the Chief of Training, Nigerian Army (COT(A)), addressed the graduation ceremony of Exercise Shining Star Course 12/2026 at the Army Headquarters Garrison Parade Ground on Friday.

Okoro emphasized that Exercise Shining Star was important for the Army's mission to produce disciplined, skilled, and battle-ready soldiers who can function effectively in modern security environments. The exercise provided participants the chance to put their recruit training knowledge and abilities to the test in realistic field situations, according to Okoro.

He reminded the soldiers to stay physically fit, mentally alert, professionally qualified, and devoted to the established government. Okoro also reminded the soldiers that their actions, both on and off duty, must represent the Service positively and strengthen the public's faith in the Nigerian Army. Lieutenant Colonel Umar Adamu, the Acting Deputy Chief of Staff Training, disclosed that 45 young soldiers of the 90 Regular Recruit Intake (RRI) from various departments, establishments, and commands in Abuja were part of the course.

Advanced areas like unit discipline, fundamental infantry tactics, physical fitness, weapon handling, map reading, night operations, and other crucial military skills were covered in the course.
