Embrace discipline, professionalism, army tells young soldiers

The Nigerian Army has urged new recruits from the 90 Regular Recruit Intake (RRI) to maintain discipline, professionalism, and a commitment to ongoing training as they join their respective units and formations. Major General Valentine Okoro, the Chief of Training for the Nigerian Army, delivered this message during the graduation ceremony of Exercise Shining Star Course 12/2026 at the Army Headquarters Garrison Parade Ground in Abuja.

Exercise Shining Star was described by Okoro as a timely and relevant activity for the Army in developing disciplined, competent, and combat-ready soldiers equipped to operate effectively in modern security environments. The exercise allowed the young soldiers to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired during recruit training in realistic field conditions, while also fostering teamwork, leadership, endurance, initiative, and sound decision-making skills.

Speaking to the soldiers, Okoro emphasized the importance of staying physically fit, mentally alert, professionally competent, and loyal to the Nigerian Army. He also reminded them that their conduct, both on and off duty, should reflect positively on the Service and contribute to preserving the public's trust in the Nigerian Army.

Acting Deputy Chief of Staff Training, Lieutenant Colonel Umar Adamu, revealed that 45 young soldiers from various departments, establishments, and commands within Abuja participated in the course. Their training included unit regimentation, basic infantry tactics, physical fitness, weapon handling, map reading, night operations, and other essential military skills. Progress was assessed through regular examinations, practical exercises, and other activities.
