Batik march from Malaysia at Asian Games opening ceremony [WATCH]

NAGOYA: The Malaysian athletes kicked off their competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan with a vibrant display on Saturday. Sprinter Azeem Fahmi and wushu expert Tan Cheong Min proudly led the 63-member team into the Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium as flag bearers. The national team donned custom-made batik outfits, which the Olympic Council of Malaysia described as a modern representation of Malaysian identity.

The attire featured a white base symbolizing unity and openness, accompanied by flowing blue, red, and gold patterns embodying confidence, courage, passion, and the pursuit of excellence. Traditional floral and botanical motifs further highlighted Malaysia's rich cultural heritage. The Malaysian flag patch on the athletes' sleeves marked the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, signifying national pride and patriotism.

Azeem, a 100m bronze medalist from the Hangzhou Asiad, expressed his elation over the occasion, stating that it would serve as a motivation to strive for greater achievements in the upcoming games.
