Alidu Seidu joins Nice on loan from Rennes

Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu has signed a loan deal with French Ligue 1 club Nice, joining from Rennes. The 26-year-old extended his contract beyond the main transfer window to bolster Nice's defense, following injuries to Antoine Mendy and Moise Bombito. Seidu, who was part of Ghana's 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, had previously discussed joining the club during the summer.

Speaking about his move, Seidu stated, "I’d already spoken to the club during the summer. In the end, I’ve joined slightly later than planned but with an enormous amount of motivation." "I want to play, to be on the pitch and to help the team and the club," he added. "I’m going to give everything to make sure that we have a good season together."

Nice president Maurice Cohen expressed confidence in Seidu's ability to adapt quickly and fit the team's plans. "Alidu is a very good player with a great mentality, and we’re certain that he’ll adapt quickly," Cohen said. "He’s in the prime of his life. I think that the fans will enjoy his style, and I know that he’ll do great things with Le Gym."

Seidu has been omitted from the Black Stars squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) matches against Ivory Coast, The Gambia, and the friendly against Morocco.
