'Ban on the free press': WHCA condemns Trump's move to bar CNN, MS NOW and Politico

The White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) has denounced President Donald Trump's decision to prohibit CNN, MSN and Politico from accessing the White House, labeling it as a "ban on the free press." WHCA President Jacqui Heinrich made the statement, emphasizing that the Constitution safeguards press freedom from government interference, regardless of a president's agreement with a news organization's reporting.

The controversy extends beyond journalists' rights, as it concerns the public's right to receive a comprehensive and unbiased account of the government's activities, according to Heinrich. The WHCA president also expressed support for journalists at CNN, MSN and Politico, stating that the association stands in defense of its colleagues who are being targeted for their professional duties.

Trump, on the other hand, has defended the restrictions, accusing the three outlets of disseminating "fake news" and negatively portraying his administration. The WHCA, an independent organization representing White House correspondents, aims to ensure the press can independently report on the presidency without government control.
