Trump's war on dissent uses powers tested on Muslims

In the 25 years since the 9/11 attacks, President Trump has used the same surveillance and anti-terrorism powers that were first tested on Muslim communities to target a wide range of political opponents. Activists across the United States have protested against proposals for a police training facility, known as Cop City, which have been met with increased government scrutiny.

In 2023, demonstrators gathered in New York City against Cop City, illustrating the ongoing struggle against perceived injustices committed by law enforcement. The Trump administration has increasingly labelled a variety of political demonstrations and opposing views as potential acts of domestic terrorism, including targeting those who express opposition to healthcare, immigration, or police policies.

By expanding the definition of terrorism to encompass anti-American sentiments and anti-capitalism, the administration seeks to limit the ability of citizens to engage in civic discourse and protest against unjust government policies.
