Trump Says He Is Banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House

President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he was barring three prominent media outlets from the White House, continuing his frequent characterization of traditional media as "fake news." In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that CNN, Politico, and MS Now would no longer be allowed access to the White House premises, citing their consistent reporting of "FAKE NEWS!"

The president emphasized that news organizations should not be able to publish fictional stories and lies while covering the President of the United States, his administration, or the United States of America. Trump hinted at further measures, stating "Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they're covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America, Trump wrote.

Trump's ongoing criticism of mainstream media, especially those with left-leaning tendencies, has been a consistent theme throughout his political career. While such rhetoric was prominent during his 2016 campaign and initial presidency, focusing on stories he deemed as "fake news," the phrase has evolved to encompass outlets with which he disagrees.

In August 2025, Trump even proposed to revoke the FCC licenses of alleged "fake news" outlets, aiming to cut off their broadcasting entirely. He has also personally targeted individual journalists, such as CNN's Kaitlan Collins during the White House correspondents dinner, and ABC's Rachel Scott during a press gaggle on the tarmac on September 11.
