Police arrest 6 armed robbery suspects

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command in Nigeria has apprehended six individuals suspected of being armed robbers who have been terrorizing three local government areas within the state. According to DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, the suspects were apprehended in the local government areas of Ikono, Ini, and Obot Akara. The suspects were alleged to be responsible for a series of criminal activities, primarily involving the theft and disposal of motorcycles and other possessions.

John disclosed in a statement issued in Uyo on Thursday that a local native doctor who allegedly creates charms for the gang and a suspect skilled in creating counterfeit receipts for the disposal and resale of stolen items were among those arrested. During the operation, a total of six suspects were apprehended, including the said native doctor and the fake receipt specialist.

Items seized during the operation comprised two single-barrel shotguns, three laptops, one presumed stolen motorcycle, local charms, and other ritualistic items found at the suspected native doctor's shrine.

The Police Public Relations Officer stated that ongoing investigations aim to clarify the individual roles of the suspects, recover remaining stolen property, and apprehend other members or associates of the criminal network.
