Pit bull mauls 6-month-old during walk in Haryana's Sonipat; baby critical, CCTV captures attack

A critical six-month-old infant suffered a severe attack from a pit bull in Sonipat, Haryana, as captured by CCTV footage, according to an NDTV report. The incident occurred in Sikka Colony when the woman, the baby's aunt, was walking with the child. The dog suddenly lunged at the pair, causing them to fall to the ground. The dog then grabbed the infant in its mouth and continued the vicious attack.

The woman tried to shield her niece, while others attempted to intervene and pull the dog away. The footage showed the infant being dragged along the street as the dog held on tightly. The baby sustained critical injuries and was transferred to a hospital in Rohtak, where her condition remains critical. The baby's family has yet to file a police complaint.

Residents are concerned about the responsibility of the dog owner and the enforcement of regulations regarding the ownership of such breeds. This incident follows a similar attack in Delhi last year, where a six-year-old boy lost part of his ear and sustained other serious injuries after being mauled by a pit bull in Vinay Enclave.

The dog's owner was later arrested in an attempted murder case. Pit bulls can be legally kept as pets in most parts of India, but some cities have local restrictions on owning these breeds.
