NUT slams FG over King’s College concession

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has strongly criticized the Federal Government's decision to cede control of King’s College, Lagos, to the institution’s Old Boys’ Association. NUT National President Audu Amba expressed concern over the move, stating that it undermines the government's responsibility to provide quality and accessible education for Nigerian children.

Amba argued that King’s College is a national symbol of unity that should be protected and funded by the government. He warned that the concession could lead to privatization of public education, thereby limiting access for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Amba also criticized the decision-making process, questioning why teachers, who are central to the school's functioning, were not consulted.

He emphasized that the government should commit resources to sustain the institution rather than ceding its management.
