NUT slams FG over King’s College concession

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has criticized the Federal Government for allowing King’s College, Lagos, to be managed by the institution’s Old Boys’ Association, accusing the government of abandoning its duty to provide quality and accessible education for Nigerian children. NUT’s National President, Audu Amba, stated that the concession of the historic 117-year-old government-owned institution is concerning and could signal an attempt to privatize public education, undermining access for less privileged children.

Amba argued that King’s College symbolizes national unity and should be funded and protected by the government. He expressed worry that the decision could lead to changes in fees and policies, negatively impacting children from less privileged backgrounds. The NUT president also criticized the lack of proper consultation with teachers and the union before the decision was made.
