NIS, UNIBEN partner to train sports administrators

The National Institute for Sports (NIS) and the University of Benin (UNIBEN) have forged a partnership to enhance sports administration training in Nigeria. Through a Memorandum of Understanding, the two institutions will collaborate to educate professionals capable of managing sports effectively. This partnership encompasses National Diploma courses, certificate programs, and coaching programs.

A significant aspect of this agreement is the establishment of a degree program in Sports Administration at UNIBEN, which will provide young Nigerians with an academic foundation for careers in the sports industry.

During the announcement, UNIBEN's Vice-Chancellor commended NIS Director-General Philip Shaibu for the Institute's notable progress under his leadership. Shaibu highlighted the transformation at NIS, emphasizing its commitment to advancing sports education and professional development. He stressed the importance of partnerships in developing national infrastructure, particularly in sports administration, by equipping professionals with the necessary skills to lead the sector effectively.

This alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda underscores the role of sustainable growth and nation-building in sports development, from grassroots initiatives to professional organization management.

The collaboration aims to cultivate a new generation of trained administrators, fostering opportunities for research, professional training, and capacity building within the Nigerian sports ecosystem.
