National Cathedral Board to hand over project site by October 31

The Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral has been given until October 31, 2026, to transfer the project site to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. This directive was issued after President John Dramani Mahama suspended the Board without prior notice. President Mahama's decision comes after a July 2025 audit highlighted concerns over the project's construction, financing and management.

In a letter from the sector Minister, Mr Ayariga called upon the Board's Chairman and members to collaborate with the project consultant to complete the transition before the set deadline. The directive effectively ends the Board's tenure, following months of uncertainty over its status. Some board members had contested the dissolution, claiming they had not received formal instructions to withdraw from the project.

However, the latest letter by Mr Ayariga now mandates the trustees to hand over the site, allowing the government to determine the future of the National Cathedral. The Ministry expressed gratitude to the Board members for their efforts in promoting Christianity in Ghana on behalf of President Mahama.
