Maharashtra Engineering Admissions 2026: Computer Engineering most preferred branch, SPPU tops university list

Pune has emerged as the leading hub for engineering admissions in Maharashtra for the 2026-27 academic year, boasting the highest number of student enrollments among all districts in the state. According to data from the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell, 49,616 students were admitted to engineering colleges in Pune district, constituting approximately 27.3% of the state's total admissions.

This figure significantly surpasses the admissions recorded in Nagpur (18,921 students) and Nashik (12,469 students), placing Pune at the forefront of Maharashtra's engineering education landscape.

At the university level, Pune's Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) outpaced other institutions with 64,822 engineering admissions, representing nearly 35.6% of the state's total engineering enrollments. This figure exceeded the combined admissions of several universities further down the list, highlighting SPPU's dominant position in the region's engineering education sector.

The overall increase in engineering admissions from 2025-26 to 2026-27 saw a rise of 15,181 students, with male students accounting for 114,121 and female students for 67,806 admissions.
