Macron orders protection of France’s infrastructure against Russian hybrid attacks

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday that Russia's shadow operations pose an increasing threat to Europe, and he has initiated steps to safeguard the nation's vital infrastructure from escalating Russian hybrid attacks. This announcement came after a gathering with French political leaders, just before Macron departs for the UN General Assembly next week.

Interior Minister had convened regional prefects to heighten vigilance in response to Russian hybrid attacks, according to Macron. He revealed that he has ordered the government to devise a plan to shield critical infrastructure, including sensitive defense industry and technology sites, against drone and cyber-attacks.

Despite the Russian threats, Macron affirmed that France will maintain its support for Ukraine, despite Russia's full-scale invasion of the pro-Western nation in February 2022. He also pledged that France would respond to Russia's shadow attacks, emphasizing that such actions will not go unanswered. Macron stated that the objective is to deter Russia and thwart its efforts to undermine support for Ukraine. He added, "We are not intimidated, because we understand that what is at stake in Ukraine is our security."
