Deadly strike on industrial zone in Zhytomyr as Russian attacks kill 6, injure 34 over past day

At least six people were killed and 34 injured in a series of Russian attacks overnight in Ukraine's Zhytomyr Oblast, according to the State Emergency Service. The attack occurred near the city of Korosten on September 17, as reported by oblast governor Vitaliy Buchenko on Telegram. Zhytomyr Oblast, typically considered one of the safer regions in Ukraine during Russia's ongoing full-scale war, is now facing the threat of jet-powered drones and frequent targeting of warehouses.

Ukrainian air defenses managed to down or jam 69 out of the 93 strike drones launched, including 46 jet-powered drones, and three cruise missiles. In addition to Zhytomyr Oblast, attacks were reported in Kherson Oblast, where a person was killed and nine injured, and in Donetsk Oblast, where one person died and six were injured.

Near Kyiv, a 17-year-old boy was killed after stepping on an explosive, and five, including three children, were injured by a Russian drone attack. Dnipropetrovsk Oblast reported two civilian injuries, and Odesa Oblast saw three people hurt in attacks on civilian infrastructure.
