Lindsay Clancy holdout juror says he had no doubt she deliberately killed her children

Michael Desronvil, the lone juror in Lindsay Clancy's trial, expressed certainty that the defendant was intentionally responsible for the murder of her three children. Speaking to CBS News, Desronvil stated, "I didn’t have any doubts" that Clancy "knew exactly what she was doing and planned it." This statement came following the judge's declaration of a mistrial on 4th September after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict after 40 hours of deliberation.

Clancy admitted to the killings but her defense argued she was suffering from postpartum psychosis. Prosecutors contended the killings were calculated. Under Massachusetts law, prosecutors had to prove Clancy's criminal responsibility beyond a reasonable doubt for her to be found guilty. The jury, comprising nine women and three men, had to decide on not guilty by reason of insanity, manslaughter or first-degree murder.

Desronvil mentioned he kept being cut off during deliberation as if he had doubts based on the evidence presented. Paula Devlin, a juror, told CBS Mornings that the panel had been trying to convince Desronvil for several days to change his mind, ultimately reaching a 10-2 verdict. Another juror said most had been "firm" and Desronvil's insistence was the only holdout.

However, the jurors' identities have not been revealed. Patrick Clancy, the children's father, is set to speak publicly about the case on CBS' 60 Minutes. The mistrial leaves the case unresolved, with prosecutors undecided on seeking a retrial.
