Late Summer Soirée raises €5,500 for alzheimer’s charity

A charity event held at Miraflores Golf has successfully raised €5,500 for AFA Fuengirola-Mijas Costa, a local Alzheimer's and dementia charity. The Late Summer Soiree, organized by Simply Thriving, featured a three-course dinner, drinks, and live performances by Alexandra Avery, Laura Carter, and Stelvis, the Costa del Sol Elvis tribute act.

The event, which took place just days before World Alzheimer's Day on September 21, aimed to support individuals living with Alzheimer's and other dementias, as well as their families and carers.

The funds raised will be used to provide daily support to over 120 people through AFA's services, with 30% of those receiving support coming from Mijas. The association has also recently opened a new centre, offering local families another source of specialized care as they continue their work with those affected by Alzheimer's and other dementias.

Community events like the Late Summer Soiree play a crucial role in directly supporting AFA's work while bringing residents together around an issue impacting many local families. The event's success can be attributed to improved production, with DJ Alex George providing high-quality sound equipment and the stage being expanded beyond the terrace to accommodate the performers. With €5,500 already raised, the final total will further bolster AFA's efforts as they prepare for World Alzheimer's Day.
