At least one fatality and four injuries have been reported following a school shooting in the southern Philippines on Friday, according to the provincial governor. This marks the latest in a series of school shootings in the country, with two incidents occurring since June. School shootings have been relatively uncommon in the Philippines, leading to deep concern from the Department of Education following the incident in Banga town, South Cotabato.

Although police have confirmed the occurrence of the shooting, details regarding the shooter and victims remain scarce at this time. The situation echoes a tragic live-streamed attack by a student in Zamboanga last month, where a student killed another student before taking his own life. In June, a high school in Tacloban witnessed a similar attack, resulting in three deaths and around 20 injuries when two classmates opened fire on campus.
