AI startup Mantic raises $25 million for superhuman forecasting

Artificial intelligence startup Mantic has secured $25 million in seed funding to enhance its capabilities in forecasting future events. The London-based company, which recently outperformed human competitors in a metaculus cup, was led in its funding round by Radical Ventures, with additional backing from Microsoft's venture fund M12, Thinking Machines Lab, Balderton Capital, and others.

Mantic's CEO, Toby Shevlane, explained that the company improves frontier AI models specifically for forecasting purposes. The startup's unique approach allows it to avoid herd mentality, which proved advantageous in the Metaculus Cup where Mantic predicted events more accurately than human forecasters. Shevlane also highlighted Mantic's ability to provide valuable insights to hedge funds, trading firms, and government agencies.
