(Picture from Facebook) In Melaka, the National Unity Ministry is prepared to consider adding a category for disabled participants to the National Unity Day Competition coming up.

Deputy Minister for National Unity, R Yuneswaran, said the proposal would provide more space for the relevant group to showcase their love for the nation. He added that his department would also investigate mechanisms to enable such participants to join the competition that currently offers five categories – Primary School, Secondary School, Higher Learning Institution (IPT), Non-Malay and Public.

“The Ministry will discuss with all stakeholders to open more categories for them,” he said. Speaking after attending the National Unity Day Finals of the Melaka Crown Prince Trophy 2026 at the International Trade & Convention Centre (MITC) in Melaka today, Yuneswaran spoke to journalists alongside Melaka's Crown Prince Ali Rustam and Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh.

He said the National Unity Day Competition, which has been held for six years, must continue as it fosters a spirit of unity and appreciation of the Rukun Negara principles among the people, especially the younger generation. He added that the competition featuring the Melaka Crown Prince Trophy has demonstrated growing public interest, with more than 10,000 participants this year.

Yuneswaran said involvement of participants from various levels, including primary school, secondary school, IPT and the general public, proved that the community was increasingly interested in understanding Rukun Negara more deeply. “Rukun Negara is not just something to recite on National Day but must become a principle we practice in our daily lives.”
