2026 WC: Ghana expects $12.5m FIFA payment by end of September – Kofi Adams

The Ghanaian government anticipates receiving around $12.5 million from FIFA before the conclusion of September, following the Black Stars' participation in the 2026 World Cup, according to Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams. The minister informed Parliament's Select Committee on Sports, Art and Culture that ongoing discussions regarding taxes and the final settlement of World Cup-related funds are still underway.

Adams mentioned that the exact amount due to Ghana will become clear once FIFA finalizes its financial processes with the host country. He expressed hope that FIFA will conclude all processes and agreements with the host countries by the end of the month. Under Ghanaian law, any funds received from FIFA are to be transferred to the country's Sports Fund via the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

This financial boost will serve to enhance the development of sports in Ghana. Adams also highlighted areas that the GFA and the national team's management should focus on improving for future tournaments. These areas include player development, coaching, establishing a clear football philosophy, and long-term planning. He noted that the team's performance at the 2026 World Cup, as well as aspects of player development, effective coaching, and a clear philosophy, underscore the importance of long-term planning and a sustainable financial plan for national team activities. Ghana reached the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup before being eliminated by Colombia.
