Sports Ministry spent $1.26m on 2,922 World Cup tickets — Kofi Adams

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation in Ghana spent an estimated $1.26 million to buy 2,922 tickets for their team's group-stage matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to Parliament's Youth and Sports Committee. The tickets were allocated for Ghana's matches against Panama, England, and Croatia. For the Panama game, the Ministry purchased 948 tickets, with 100 Category One tickets priced at $450 each and $495 after a 10% administrative charge.

The England fixture saw 1,000 tickets bought, including 100 Category One tickets valued at $600 each, costing $660 after the charge. For the Croatia match, 974 tickets were procured, with 100 Category One tickets priced at $500 each, totaling $550 after the 10% fee. These tickets were not intended for resale but for distribution to various stakeholders such as the Ghana Supporters Union, Ghana's High Commissions in Canada and the United States, Ghanaians living abroad, and the Ghana Football Association officials.

Initially, over 800 tickets were planned for supporters, but due to visa application issues at some centers, the Ministry decided to allocate more tickets to those already in the diaspora who could pay, ensuring a greater number of Ghanaians could attend the matches.
