Tusk: intelligence sees Russian plan for drone strikes on Poland, allies

Prime Minister Donald Tusk addressed the Sejm with a dire warning about Russia's plans to launch drone strikes on Poland and other allies. He described this as a serious scenario that requires the nation to be mentally prepared to face challenging tests ahead, especially in the critical phase of the Russian-Ukrainian war during late autumn and winter.

Tusk highlighted the deployment of Russia's new jet-powered drones, which travel at high speeds and high altitudes, making them difficult to counter. He emphasized that Poland and its allies must increase their preparedness to counter these drones.

Tusk announced his visit to Ukraine to discuss cooperation within the anti-ballistic coalition and make use of Ukrainian and other countries' skills, capabilities, and capacities. He also mentioned the broken promise of an energy truce by US President Donald Trump, which has led to increased attacks on energy infrastructure in Ukraine, including installations near Poland's border crossings.

Russia's primary goal, according to Tusk, is to destroy Ukraine's economy and logistics. He stressed that Russia plans to conduct hybrid strikes with drones and missiles on NATO countries supporting Ukraine, including Poland, to weaken NATO's motivation to invoke alliance provisions in case of aggression.

Tusk warned of the risk of "accidental" strikes on NATO countries on the eastern flank, which may be presented as accidents to avoid a NATO response. He also noted the possibility of political changes in some European countries due to Russia's strategy, urging European politicians to promote unity and avoid spreading hostility towards the European Union, NATO allies, and Ukrainians.

Tusk concluded by urging all present in the Sejm chamber to speak with one voice, take joint decisions, and demonstrate solidarity in the face of threats to Poland's borders, airspace, and people's homes.
