Trump administration again denies visas for Palestinian delegation to attend the UN General Assembly

The Trump administration has once again denied visas for a Palestinian delegation to attend the United Nations General Assembly, marking the second consecutive year this has occurred. In a statement on Wednesday, the State Department cited the Palestinian leadership's failure to meet peace commitments with Israel as the reason for the visa denials.

Specifically, the department highlighted ongoing legal actions against Israel by the Palestinian Authority at international courts and continued financial support for families of convicted Palestinian attackers. Furthermore, officials linked to the Palestine Liberation Organization were also subject to the sanctions. The decision is rooted in U.S. law and underscores the administration's close ties with Israel, which has been under international scrutiny following its October 2023 war in Gaza.

Despite the visa restrictions, Palestinian diplomats, already accredited to the U.N., will still be able to participate in next week's high-level meeting. Last year, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas delivered his speech remotely. The administration's actions come amid the Trump administration's broader efforts to undermine the International Criminal Court, accusing it of unfairly prosecuting U.S. and Israeli soldiers.
