BUDI Diesel subsidy eligibility now transferable to non-family users, says Anwar

KUCHING, Sept 17 — The Malaysian government has introduced changes to the BUDI Madani Diesel (BUDI Diesel) programme, allowing eligible private diesel vehicle owners to transfer their monthly eligibility to up to three other eligible users, not just immediate family members. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced this move at a Malaysia Day 2026 celebration, noting that concerns raised by Sabah and Sarawak ministers prompted the decision.

Registered owners can now transfer their eligibility to any eligible Malaysian citizen holding a valid MyKad who is the actual user of the vehicle, subject to an appeal application. The Finance Ministry explained that approved recipients can purchase subsidised RON95 or diesel, or a combination of both, using their MyKad. Owners with multiple diesel vehicles can transfer eligibility to a maximum of three other individuals, while retaining eligibility for any unequipped vehicles.

Once approved, the transfer is final and cannot be reversed, except in special circumstances. Applications for the new policy can be made through the BUDI Madani portal, Inland Revenue Board offices, or petrol stations, with applications due by the 27th of the current month to take effect from the 1st of the following month.
