Scam Base Targeting Japanese Run From Lavish Bangkok Mansion

A lavish Bangkok mansion, described as resembling a palace, was allegedly used as a base for a fraud operation targeting Japanese individuals, according to Thai authorities. The property, rented for approximately 4.2 million yen per month, was discovered to be adorned with opulent decorations, including large chandeliers and ornate furnishings, alongside items bearing the Metropolitan Police Department name and Japanese scripts.

The suspects, including four Japanese men, were allegedly posing as Japanese police officers and targeted people in Japan, impersonating officers and persuading victims to transfer money by claiming suspicious financial transactions had occurred. The suspects' call booths contained manuals with instructions emphasizing the importance of appearing sincere and confident, as well as striking at victims' weaknesses when sensitivity was low.

The property owner expressed surprise at the mansion's use for such activities, stating he did not want something like this to happen and could not forgive acts that deceive people. Thai authorities are searching for a Chinese man believed to be directing the operation and remain at large.
