Nigerian families can no longer afford food under Tinubu – Atiku laments

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep concern over the inability of Nigerian families to afford basic food supplies under the current administration of President Bola Tinubu. In a recent statement, Atiku highlighted the alarming statistics from nutrition experts, which show that 41.1% of Nigerian children under the age of five are stunted, while an additional 19.2% are severely stunted. These figures, Atiku argues, are among the most troubling indicators of the escalating cost-of-living crisis in Nigeria.

Atiku emphasized that the economic hardships faced by Nigerians are not merely a matter of financial strain, but also pose a severe threat to the physical well-being and future prospects of millions of Nigerian children. He painted a vivid picture of the daily struggles faced by mothers who must constantly decide how to allocate their limited resources to ensure their children receive adequate nourishment.

Atiku stressed that a child's understanding of inflation is nonexistent; they only know whether there is food on the table.

The ex-vice president stressed that when nutritious food becomes unaffordable for the majority of families, the consequences are devastatingly evident in the physical development of the nation's children. Atiku called upon leaders to be deeply troubled by the current figures, highlighting that such statistics should evoke a strong sense of responsibility and action from those in positions of power.
