Sales of Galaxy Z Fold 8 increase following unveiling of Apple's 1st foldable smartphone

Sales of Samsung Electronics' new Galaxy Z Fold 8 foldable smartphone have seen a rise in domestic sales in Korea following Apple's unveiling of its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, according to industry sources. In the week after the iPhone Duo's debut, sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in Korea increased by approximately 10 percent compared to the previous week, industry sources reported on Thursday.

This surge in demand for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is thought to be partly attributable to consumers who had postponed their purchases in anticipation of Apple's new product and subsequently chose the Galaxy Z Fold 8 instead. Factors such as the iPhone Duo's pricing and hardware specifications are also considered influential in Korean consumers' buying decisions.

The iPhone Duo, when equipped with a 256-gigabyte storage capacity, is priced at 3.29 million won ($2,380) in Korea, surpassing the 2.28 million won price tag of the 256GB Galaxy Z Fold 8 by over 1 million won. The 2-terabyte variant of the iPhone Duo is priced at 5.09 million won in the Korean market. This price disparity between the two smartphones is relatively significant compared to the United States, where the 256GB models differ by approximately $100 in price.
