Ruto turns on Uhuru again as Nyanza tour ends

NAIROBI, Kenya - President William Ruto has launched a fresh attack on his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of trying to undermine his government and urging him to stop active political mobilization. This is the third day in a row that Ruto has directly criticized Uhuru during his four-day development tour of Nyanza. Ruto claims that Uhuru failed to support him after they ran two presidential election victories together and later worked against his administration.

The President asserts that he stood by Uhuru through four election cycles, but Uhuru did not reciprocate by supporting him. Ruto claims that their previous discussions of a ten-year presidency each failed to materialize. Uhuru, however, maintains that it is his democratic right to oppose Ruto. The Kenyan leader emphasizes his administration's progress in stabilizing the economy, repaying the country's debt, reducing inflation, and doubling foreign exchange reserves.

He also highlights achievements in education, housing, and healthcare, such as hiring 100,000 teachers, constructing 23,000 classrooms, building 300,000 houses, and establishing 600 markets. Moreover, Ruto accuses Uhuru of organizing political groups and demonstrations aimed at weakening his administration. The President urges Uhuru to respect his position as a former President and to desist from activities that destabilize his administration.

Ruto's remarks follow a similar criticism of Uhuru during his visit to Siaya County, where he questioned whether the retired President could defeat him politically after failing to do so during his term.
