Rocky Dawuni reveals sacrifices behind his Grammy nominations

Rocky Dawuni, a four-time Grammy nominee, has shared insights into the sacrifices and experiences that have shaped his musical journey. Speaking on 3Xtra’s Behind the Hustle, Dawuni reflected on his childhood, describing himself as a curious child with a global perspective who believed his music should address the issues he was passionate about.

"Before the stages and nominations, I was a very curious child. I thought globally. I also thought about the people. I thought my voice musically should be something that had to address the issues that I was engaged with," he said. Building a career in music, Dawuni emphasized the importance of staying true to one's vision, even when faced with obstacles and criticism.

"You have to understand that the road comes to meet you when you stay true to the road. In everything that you are in or want to achieve in life, it’s not other people’s responsibility to manifest your destiny. You have to have such an unquenchable thirst to manifest that destiny. You have to have deep resilience to overcome every stumbling block," Dawuni explained.

He further revealed that his dedication to his craft meant he invested nearly all of his earnings back into his music, even during the early stages when there were no immediate rewards. "After school, when I started working and figuring out how to invest in my own music, every penny that I made, I dumped it into recording. In the early stages, there was no reward.

That was a sacrifice that I knew had to be made to manifest my destiny," he added. Now a four-time Grammy nominee, Dawuni’s Grammy journey is a testament to his commitment to his craft and the principles he adopted early in his career.
