MCA ready for GE16, focus not on number of seats, says Wee

Yong Peng, September 17 — MCA President Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong stated that the party is highly prepared for the 16th general election (GE16). He emphasized that MCA had begun preparations early, acknowledging that elections could be called at any time due to administrations typically lasting between three years eight months and over four years, based on the past 15 general elections.

Wee commented on the potential timeline for GE16, estimating that there may be only a few months left until the election, with the range being around four to five months. He downplayed the importance of the number of seats MCA intended to contest, stating that while winning more seats would be preferable, it was not a primary concern.

"To me, the total isn't important," Wee said. "To win more, that's even better. But it's only self gratification if we contest 50 seats and lost all of them, it's pointless. For me, our target is to win." Regarding Kluang Umno's proposal for MCA to relinquish the Kluang parliamentary seat for GE16, Wee stated that the matter could potentially be discussed at the grassroots level, but ultimately, the decision would be made by the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership. He reiterated that if BN proposed a candidate, that individual would represent BN in the election.
