MCA ready for GE16, focus not on number of seats, says Wee

MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong stated that the party is highly prepared for the 16th general election (GE16) Malaysia. The Ayer Hitam MP expressed that MCA had been proactively preparing for the election and did not delay any steps. Wee highlighted that elections could be called at any time as administrations typically last between three years eight months and more than four years, based on the last 15 general elections.

He estimated that there were a few months left until GE16, possibly between four to five months. Wee downplayed the significance of the number of seats MCA aimed to contest in the upcoming election, stating that it was not the primary concern. He emphasized that winning more seats would be even better than simply targeting a certain number of seats, as it would be pointless to contest a large number of seats and lose all of them.

Wee stated that the target for MCA was to win the election. Regarding the proposal from Kluang Umno to transfer the Kluang parliamentary seat to MCA for GE16, Wee indicated that it could be discussed at the grassroots level but the final decision would be at the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership level. He reiterated that if BN places a candidate, that candidate would represent BN.
