Malaysia must look beyond Malay unity for political stability, according to Sarawak Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. The minister expressed concern over the growing emphasis on race and religion in the peninsula, particularly after 60 years of Merdeka. He urged leaders in the peninsula to remember that Sabah and Sarawak are equal partners in the federation and stressed that political stability should not be measured only by the unity of Malay parties.

Karim highlighted the importance of Sarawak's multicultural identity during the opening of the 23rd Kuching Inter-Cultural Mooncake Festival and emphasized the role of younger generations in preserving traditions. He also urged the peninsula to recognize the contributions of other races and religious groups, stating that an unstable Malaysia would negatively impact Borneo states and their relations with other countries.
