King Charles warns of ‘existential danger’ of AI falling into wrong hands

King Charles has cautioned AI executives about the "existential dangers" that could arise if the technology falls into the wrong hands. During a summit at Dumfries House in Scotland, he addressed how AI can be utilized for societal benefits while emphasizing the need for regulation to prevent potential catastrophes. The summit involved participants from AI leaders like Nvidia, OpenAI, and Anthropic, as well as UK's AI Minister Kanishka Narayan and the Pope's advisor.

The King urged the executives to consider the urgent need to address these dangers and ensure AI remains subservient to humanity, community, and the natural world. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, present at the summit, stressed the importance of safety and suggested that if a product was not safe enough, companies should halt production and continue engineering efforts.

He also advocated for open models that provide direct user access to software, ensuring that individuals, countries, and institutions can develop innovative applications. Huang called for responsible optimism in AI development, emphasizing that it should be built safely and securely, with accessibility and ambition expansion.
