John Leguizamo rolls up his blazer sleeves for villain role in Miami Vice '85

Actor John Leguizamo is set to step into the villainous role of a cartel leader in the upcoming reboot of the classic 1980s TV series Miami Vice. Joseph Kosinski is at the helm as the director for this latest installment, which also features Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler as the main protagonists, Tubbs and Crockett. Other notable cast members include Whitney Peak, Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone, and Danny Ramirez. The screenplay is penned by Dan Gilroy, known for his work on Nightcrawler.

Recalling the original pilot episode, "Brother's Keeper," from the 1985 Miami Vice series, the new adaptation will see Butler and Tubbs replace Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx's characters from the 2006 reboot. Interestingly, director Michael Mann has announced that he will screen a brand-new director's cut of the film, which will premiere at the Beyond Fest.

This director's cut, while not the theatrical release, has been the primary version of the movie for the past two decades. Miami Vice '85 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 19, 2028.
