JAMB explains ‘not admitted’, ‘admission in progress’ statuses

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified the meanings of the statuses “Not Admitted,” “Admission in Progress,” and “Admitted” that appear on candidates' Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). In a video released, JAMB encouraged candidates to frequently check their CAPS for updates throughout the admission process.

The “Not Admitted” status signifies that a candidate has not yet been offered admission. JAMB clarified, however, that this does not automatically mean the candidate will not be admitted in the future. Candidates with this status should continue monitoring their CAPS for possible updates.

An “Admission in Progress” status indicates that an institution has proposed a candidate for admission, but the process has not yet been finalized. This could occur when the institution's admission officer has recommended the candidate for admission, awaiting the head of the institution's endorsement. Alternatively, this status may apply when the head of an institution has recommended the candidate for admission, but JAMB's approval is still pending. JAMB emphasized that a “Admission in Progress” status does not guarantee admission.

For a recommended offer to proceed, the candidate must meet the required conditions. Should the candidate fail to meet these prerequisites, the Board could still reject the offer. A candidate's CAPS status will change to “Admitted” once JAMB officially approves the admission offer. Upon receiving the admission offer, the candidate can then choose to accept or reject it through CAPS.

Candidates should be aware that their CAPS status will continue to change throughout the admission process, from the initial updates to the final stage of receiving the admission letter. JAMB urged candidates to rely on JAMB's official channels for accurate and verified information about the admission process.
