JAMB explains ‘not admitted,’ ‘admission in progress’ statuses

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has clarified the meanings behind the “Not Admitted,” “Admission in Progress,” and “Admitted” statuses that appear on candidates' Central Admissions Processing System. This explanation was provided in a video on Thursday, encouraging candidates to regularly check their CAPS for updates as the admission process continues.

When a candidate sees the “Not Admitted” status, JAMB clarifies that it simply indicates they have not yet been offered admission. However, this does not definitively mean they will not be admitted at all. The Board advises those with this status to continue monitoring their CAPS for any potential updates.

The “Admission in Progress” status can have two possible explanations. It might mean that an educational institution has suggested a candidate for admission, but the process has not yet been finalized. In this scenario, the institution's admission officer has recommended the candidate, but the head of the institution still needs to give their approval.

Alternatively, the status could arise when the head of an institution has recommended a candidate, but the final decision from JAMB—whether to approve or deny the admission—has yet to be made.

Despite these explanations, JAMB stresses that candidates should not assume the “Admission in Progress” status guarantees them admission. The Board emphasizes that this particular status does not equate to automatic admission.
