JAMB explains ‘not admitted,’ ‘admission in progress’ statuses

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified the meanings of the "Not Admitted," "Admission in Progress," and "Admitted" statuses that candidates encounter on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) during the admission process. The Board issued this explanation through a video shared on Thursday, encouraging candidates to regularly check their CAPS for updates throughout the process.

When a candidate's status is marked as "Not Admitted," JAMB explained that it means they have not yet been offered admission. However, it does not necessarily imply that admission will be denied. The Board advised candidates in this situation to continue monitoring their CAPS for potential updates.

The "Admission in Progress" status indicates that an institution has proposed a candidate for admission, but the process is still ongoing. This could occur if the institution's admission officer has recommended the candidate for admission, pending the head of the institution's approval. Alternatively, it might mean that the head of the institution has recommended the candidate but the admission still awaits JAMB's final approval or disapproval.

Despite this status, it is important to note that it does not guarantee automatic admission, as the recommended offer could still be rejected if the candidate fails to meet the necessary requirements.

For a status to be marked as "Admitted," JAMB must officially approve the admission offer. At this point, candidates receive the message, "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE BEEN OFFERED ADMISSION," and they are then able to accept or reject the offer through CAPS.

The Board emphasized that a candidate's CAPS status will continue to change as the admission process unfolds, until the final stage where they can print their admission letter. To ensure they receive the most accurate and verified information, JAMB urged candidates to rely on their official channels for updates throughout the admission process.
