IKEA Korea opens 8th outlet in Daegu

DAEGU, South Korea, September 17 - IKEA Korea has opened its eighth store in the southern city of Daegu, aiming to expand its market presence and sales. The new location, situated within Shinsegae Department Store near Dongdaegu Station, caters to customers in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province. IKEA CEO Isabel Puig stated that the store opening represents a significant step in making IKEA more accessible for everyday customers.

IKEA plans to continue expanding its storefronts, including traditional blue-box stores, urban-format stores, and online channels, to offer customers various shopping options. Currently, IKEA Korea operates eight stores, including one in Seoul, four in the metropolitan area, and three in regional cities of Busan, Daegu, and Gwangju.

The company intends to open a ninth store in Daejeon in November, located 144 kilometers south of Seoul. IKEA Korea's first Seoul store, IKEA Gangdong, was established in 2025 to accommodate the growing trend of consumers researching products online before making purchases in physical stores. The latest store differs from IKEA's traditional blue-box format, as it is located inside a shopping mall.

To attract more customers, IKEA Korea introduced next-day parcel delivery in April and expanded home delivery options, offering more flexible time slots and service choices. In the fiscal year ending August 2025, IKEA Korea's sales increased by 2.2% to 639.3 billion won (US$434 million), driven by its omnichannel strategy, which includes its website, mobile app, and phone-based shopping services.

Online sales contributed 13% to the total revenue, with the company targeting 200 billion won in e-commerce sales for the current year, up from 50 billion won in 2019.
