IG assures parents of children’s safety

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has assured parents of their children's safety in schools across Nigeria. During the launch of the Police Community Relations Committee's Safe School Initiative in Abuja, Disu pledged the police's responsibility in reinforcing school security nationwide. The Initiative mobilised 10,000 volunteers and initiated the deployment of CCTV cameras to schools.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, explained that the police had established internal warning and response mechanisms to quickly alert security authorities to emerging threats. Disu highlighted the importance of the programme in light of the escalating targeting of soft targets, including schools and places of worship.

The PCRC National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, emphasized that the initiative represents community policing under Disu's leadership. He noted that the IGP directed the committee to actively participate in securing communities. The PCRC would deploy volunteers in collaboration with the police, community leaders, and other stakeholders, with a focus on rural and remote schools.

The initiative also includes the deployment of CCTV cameras to enhance surveillance and early detection of suspicious activities.
