Don't victimise women in 'Ghana Jollof' hunt: Akosua Manu appeals to CID Boss

Election Watch Ghana has expressed disappointment over the low number of women running in the internal party elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Out of the 47 total candidates, only six are women, representing around 13% of the contestants. The group praised the women who have stepped forward but highlighted the figures as a call for more deliberate efforts to encourage higher female participation in the party’s internal democratic processes.

To boost women's interest, Election Watch Ghana recommended reducing financial barriers, engaging in continuous outreach, providing mentorship, and sharing information. They emphasized that efforts to increase women's involvement should not be limited to election periods but should be ongoing throughout the electoral cycle, ensuring women feel confident and prepared to become leadership candidates.

Election Watch Ghana pledged to monitor future internal elections, hoping to see a significant rise in female candidates. They concluded by stating that greater female representation in internal party structures enhances inclusive participation and contributes to a more representative democratic process.
