Jerusalem Daily: Israelis protest outside ‘NAZA’ filmmaker’s home

Dozens of far-right Israelis gathered outside the family home of NAZA documentary co-director Rachel Szor on Wednesday, demanding her execution for her film on alleged war crimes committed by Israel during its offensive in Gaza. Szor and her co-director Yuval Abraham have faced significant backlash since winning the Special Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival on Saturday.

One protester stated that Szor and Abraham should be tried and executed upon their return to Israel, with their family expelled and the house sealed. A far-right activist connected to National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir urged protesters to identify the filmmakers if they encountered them in public. Signs reading "traitors" and Israeli army unit flags were also held by demonstrators.

The backlash has extended beyond far-right protesters, with Israeli politicians, journalists, and public figures attacking the filmmakers and questioning the documentary's claims. A poll found that 68% of respondents did not believe the film's allegations of intentional mass killings in Gaza, while 48% supported banning the film from being screened in Israel.

The protest occurred as the controversy surrounding NAZA continued to intensify following its success at the Venice festival.
